2022 Stormzy Scholarship

About The Stormzy Scholarship

The Stormzy Scholarship has supported two black students in the UK financially every year since its establishment in 2018, which has improved their university experiences.

We were thrilled to announce in 2021 that the #Merky Foundation had expanded the program to offer scholarships to 13 black UK students accepted to the University of Cambridge in the fall of 2022. This was done in collaboration with HSBC UK.

Since this commitment will continue for at least the next three years, 30 more black students in the UK will gain from it.

13 scholarships in total were offered in 2021, with 10 of them funded by HSBC UK, two by Stormzy, and one by an unidentified donor.

The scholarships, which are non-repayable, will fully cover tuition costs and offer a maintenance allowance, thereby minimizing the need for recipients to take out loans from the federal or private sectors. Recipients will have access to this assistance for up to four years of undergraduate study. Each student will get a £20,000 annual grant amount for 2022–2023. Receiving this award won't change a person's ability to get a Cambridge Bursary.

The highest number of black students from the UK to enroll in programmes at Cambridge ever was 137 in 2020. To ensure that black students from the UK not only apply to study at the institution but also feel at home and reach their full potential, more needs to be done.
