Generation Google Scholarship 2023 - Overview

The Generation Google Scholarship was created to assist aspiring computer science students in excelling in technology and becoming leaders in the field. For the 2023-2024 school year, selected students will receive $10,000 USD (for those studying in the United States) or $5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada). The Generation Google Scholarship will be awarded based on each candidate's demonstrated leadership, academic performance, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Generation Google Scholarship - Overview


The program is open to students who meet all of the minimum qualifications, and we strongly encourage students who identify with historically underrepresented groups in the technology industry, such as women, black/African Americans, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders, to apply.

Recipients of one of the following Google Scholarships: 

Generation Google Scholarship 
Generation Google Scholarship for women in gaming, Generation Google Scholarship: for supply chain and fulfillment, Google Lime Scholarship, Google Student Veterans of America Scholarship, Women Techmakers Scholarship for Computer Science, and Women Techmakers Scholarship for Gaming and Venkat Panchapakesan Scholarships India are not eligible to reapply.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's program at an accredited university or college for the 2022-23 academic year OR be a high school senior.
  • Intend to enroll or be accepted as a full-time student in a Bachelor's program at an accredited university in the United States or Canada for the academic year 2023-2024.
  • Be pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Showcase a strong academic record.
  • Exhibit leadership and a commitment to increasing the representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology.
For students who are not eligible, we strongly advise them to visit Google Careers for Students to learn about alternative opportunities and programs available in their country/region based on their academic level.

Application Process

You will be required to submit an online application that includes the following information:

  • Background information in general (e.g. contact information and details about your current and intended universities).
  • Information about the family and the household.
  • Resume/CV.
  • Transcripts from your current college or university (and prior, if applicable).
  • Answers to questions about short answer essays (Questions will be available once the application is launched).

What to Include in Resume

Please include leadership positions, extracurricular activities, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts on your resume, if applicable.

Examples are Clubs and organizations, national society chapters, programming competitions and hackathons, teaching assistantships, research opportunities, developmental programs, distinguished academic awards, speaking engagements, community service/volunteer work, positions in DEI-focused organizations, and so on.

Terms and Conditions

The Generation Google Scholarship must be used to cover tuition fees, books, supplies, and equipment for the student's classes at their primary university. Scholarship recipients must be full-time students for the academic year 2023-2024.

Before the winners are chosen, their enrollment will be verified, and all scholarship payments will be made directly to the student to be used toward tuition and education-related expenses. Students under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign these scholarship award terms and conditions at the time of acceptance.

We will withhold the award from any scholar who no longer meets the eligibility requirements, and we will revoke the award from any scholar who fails to meet the eligibility requirements.

Google will send selected recipients instructions on how to accept the award. Failure to complete these steps by the specified deadline will result in recipients being disqualified from receiving the award. On a case-by-case basis, recipients may defer their award for up to one (1) year from the time of originally planned payment, as determined by Google. 


Employees of Google are not eligible to apply for Google scholarships. Individuals who are: 
  • Embargoed country residents,
  • Ordinarily resident in embargoed countries, or 
  • Otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
