2022 Application Update on the Utrecht University PhD Scholarship

 Utrecht University is presently accepting applications for its Utrecht University PhD Scholarship from appropriately prepared individuals. All students are eligible for this fully supported grant.

Purpose and Benefits of a PhD Scholarship at Utrecht University

The selected individuals will be paid a monthly gross wage for four years, starting at €2,443 in the first year and increasing to €3,122 in the fourth year of work.

In addition, students will receive an 8% holiday bonus, an 8.3% end-of-year bonus, and a pension plan that includes partially funded maternity leave.

Criteria for a PhD Scholarship at Utrecht University

Applicants must meet all of the following/given criteria to be considered:

1. A fondness for numerical modeling.
2. Prior experience/knowledge of working with large-scale (hydrological) datasets.
3. The ability to work as part of a group.
4. You are passionate about working with global datasets and models and are interested in global water and sustainability concerns.

You are a team player who will work as part of a multidisciplinary team as part of the larger SOS-WATER project, with scientific and technical support on the ground.

You will collaborate with the team to make large-scale hydrological models available at fine resolutions so that they can be used in local evaluations while yet having global application.

Your focus will be on upgrading the existing PCR-GLOBWB model created in Utrecht and providing high-resolution water simulations that feature dynamic human water interactions with our European colleagues (e.g., abstraction for irrigation, industry, households).
